idsd pro 4.4mm pentaconn -jack of all trades-
the master product

review by Andrew Ballew

I have been poring over all my pages of notes, recalling many of my late nights of listening, and familiarizing and refamiliarizing myself with this beast that is the iFI iDSD PRO.  There is so much going on here, potentially, and there is all so much going on here very WELL, potentially, that any review that does the product justice is intimidating, and a real responsibility to listeners, enthusiasts, engineers and companies alike.

IFI HI-FI.  PRO, ZEN AND NEO.  A REVIEW/COMPARO BEGINS...

We cover a lot of iFi here at Euphonic Review, and the reason for that is simple.  As a site dedicated to 'getting out the word' on the best budget products, iFi is simply one of the best in this market.  They also stand out from the crowd with their engineering choices, sound preferences, and with their class leading, competition destroying honest interaction with consumers.  Have a question?  You won't get a canned answer.  You will usually come away with something insightful...

S.M.S.L D300 UNDERDOG STORY- NEW BUDGET KING

Picture
review by Andrew Ballew

There are times when as reviewers, we just get darn lucky.  Such was the case with myself and the S.M.S.L D300 sitting on my desktop as I type this review.  Yes, the next item planned for evaluation at EuphonicReview.com was an S.M.S.L product, however the original intent was to hear and evaluate the higher end S.M.S.L SU-10.  Then this 'little' D300 caught my eye.

topping e70v dac review (akm)

review by Andrew Ballew

To give a short recap of where we have been, I received both versions of Topping's E70 DAC.  The first to arrive was the older E70 with ESS9028PRO chipset.  Then a couple weeks later, the E70V arrived, sporting the latest AKM flagship chipset, the AK4191EQ Digital Processor and Modulator, and the new AK4499EXEQ, which converts the modulated signal received from the AK4191 into analog.

TOPPING E70 DAC REVIEW (ES9028PRo)

To begin to understand 'Chi-fi', in this case specifically Topping, one must have an understanding of Shenzhen, which many think of as China's 'Silicon Valley'.  The region in historically known as Sham Chun, and is what is called a 'sub provincial' city, and is considered a 'special economic zone'.

COSMOS in a box- e1da cosmos adc review

I spoke a bit to soon.  When it comes to conversation, writing just for myself, or blogging for others, it matters not... stream of consciousness takes over and I have to reach out and grab it and pull it back in.  Which is just one of the many reasons I LOVE Chat A.I.  It can spit out a well organized, fleshed out and grammatically perfect blog post in seconds, and it's very, very scary at first when you realize a human being didn't write it.  The machines are coming alive.  If only Alan Turing were around to see.

IFI ZEN DAC V2 TEST REVIEW

Picture
review by Andrew Ballew

My background is in music.  Yes, a bland and generic statement, yet indeed is true.   Though  I have no poetic inspiration that inspires great prose to roll off my tongue like a Greek master, nonetheless, it is true that I studied Classical Music on the dollar of the University of Tennessee. (GO BIG ORANGE!) One of the things required of a 'music major' is Ear Training.  What a beautiful course; I wish all college courses were the same.  If one masters the material early, they achieve an 'A' and never return to that class again.   In fact, one may enroll into the higher levels immediately, and before one is aware, so to speak,  2 years of credit in Ear Training appear on transcripts in a matter of months.
